When I started 10-DAY CAREER CHALLENGE ACTUALLY WORTH DOING my goal was to learn just as much as, alongside you and I’ve learned so much, I hope you have too. But what I learned the most, is about goal setting.
You see, I interviewed for 2 positions that I thought were my “corporate dream jobs” back in December 2023. I was like, “finally, my corporate career lottery has come through. But it wasn’t to be, I didn’t get either job I was highly qualified for, needless to say, my ego was badly bruised.
Finding solace in writing has always been an outlet for me, but as depressed as I was, I couldn’t. Instead of taking action, I sat in my depression and self-pity. Until my son texted me back in early February with, “what’s this week’s blog about”? Honestly, I hadn’t thought about it…. but my son’s text was enough for me to get busy, I wasn’t about to let him down. I got off the couch where I really had been for a month and a half, and sat at my desk, and just started writing. I did get the blog out that day and sent him the link, feeling satisfied, and no longer depressed.
The next day I decided to create a blog series of topics interesting to me and thought other readers might be interested as well. And here are my 4 key takeaways from this blog series, that I celebrate!
Key Takeaway #1
Goal Setting
Set goals. There is no one who will push you to do what you want to do. People can support you, yes, but only you know what you are capable of and trying to accomplish. Encourage yourself, and celebrate your accomplishments, even the tiniest ones.
You can hear the same message or advice given by encouraging life coaches like, Tony Robbins, Mel Robbins, and Oprah, but unless you are ready to receive the information they are sharing, it will fall on deaf ears, you won’t change a thing.
It’s really that simple, if you want to be in a different place in your life say in 6-months, a year, or 5-years from now, getting prepared and setting goals are your commitment to yourself. And let me tell you, nothing will bring on anxiety, worry, depression, frustration, and disappointment quicker, than disappointing yourself. I encourage you to set your goals, and work towards them every single day.
“By recording your dreams and goals on paper, you set in motion the process of becoming the person you most want to be. Put your future in good hands—your own.”
—Mark Victor Hansen
Key Takeaway #2
Cultural Intelligence
The differences between one human being to another, is humanities greatest strength and its greatest weakness. Working together to find common ground on cultural differences is vital to the preservation of life, otherwise, we will implode. Being corrosive to one another does nothing, give yourself the opportunity to learn.
People are fascinating, the world is a wonderful place no matter what it may seem, I encourage you to travel and experience other cultures and talk with others in their own environment. Talk about your adventures, write these journeys down and take time to reflect. Learn to be a better communicator to others, and always stay curious. Forever continue to learn. Learning is the gateway to understanding.
The key to community is the acceptance, in fact the celebration of our individual and cultural differences. It is also the key to world peace
Key Takeaway #3
Self-Reflection
The sound of silence is loudest when you’re in self-reflection. The ability to sit still and effectively self-reflect, is when you know changes are about to happen. You can feel a shift.
Personally, in my own self-reflection I realized that whatever I am holding on to from my past, it limits my present and future. Actually, not letting go, steals pieces of you. Realizing I didn’t want to pay the price, anymore. Quietly, I let them go, accepted what was and is, and found peace. I encourage the same for you.
Mental peace is the most sought-after single reward we all want to have in your lives. Letting go of anything which no longer serves you doesn’t mean you lost something, it means you actually gained something, control of your mind, body, and the spirit of who you are. I encourage you to set time aside to self-reflect every day on what’s going great and celebrate and self-reflect on what you need to change to bring about peace.
“The most important journey you will take in your life will usually be the one of self-transformation.”
-Shannon L. Alder
Key Takeaway #4
Celebrate your Successes
Whether you got to work on time, made a new dinner from scratch, stumbled through a tough presentation and got the sale anyway, whatever you accomplished, celebrate it. Celebrations are the result of accomplishment in any area of your life. Not taking the time to celebrate the smallest of wins in your life, well it’s just tragic.
All celebrations are made to look different, because celebrations are experiences that reflect a contribution of the collective and individual. These are happy times.
I encourage you to always celebrate your accomplishments no matter in which form they come. Drop all expectations of how a celebration should be and accept how it is in the present. Every single birthday I have, I buy myself a birthday cake, and scribe “Happy Birthday to ME! It’s my gift to me, and I love doing it for myself.
Take all the wins you can that you rightly deserve, they belong to you.
The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate.
