Blissful bubble blowing! Imagine for just a moment, bubbles floating in the air everywhere… does it bring a smile to your face? I sure hope it does.
During down times and stressful times in my life, I will grab a bottle of bubbles and just breathe in and breathe out and I look at all the bubbles in the air, and at that very moment in time, life doesn’t seem so bad.
Bubbles bring me joy! They make me happy, seeing them puts a smile on my face. People think I’m crazy at my age loving to blow bubbles. But it’s really more than that. It’s a total stress reliver for me. They make me laugh! They seem magical! Have I convinced you yet, to go out and buy some bubbles to blow?
Let’s grab a wand, take a deep breath and let’s learn more behind the science and joy of this blissful stress reliever.
Science Behind Blowing Bubbles
Stress is a normal part of our daily lives, and we chose different ways manage it. But did you know that when you are blowing bubbles you are engaging in deep breathing exercises? When we are blowing bubbles, we are constantly breathing in and breathing out. When we take slow, deliberate breaths, we activate the parasympathetic nervous system, promoting relaxation and a sense of calm.
In fact, more oxygen is being released into the brain, let me explain.
Deep breathing, while blowing bubbles, increases oxygen intake. When you take slow, deliberate breaths, you inhale more oxygen. This oxygen is transported by the bloodstream to various parts of the body, including the brain. As a result, oxygen levels in the brain can increase, contributing to a feeling of alertness and relaxation.
So, while blowing bubbles doesn’t directly release more oxygen to the brain, the deep breathing involved in the activity can enhance oxygen intake, benefiting overall brain function and contributing to a sense of well-being.
It counters the effects of the sympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for the “fight or flight” response.
Setting the Right Mood
As part of your stress reduction routine, you will want to set time aside to enjoy the experience. I suggest putting on your favorite playlist, grab your bottles of bubbles and enjoy yourself. Let your experience be your haven of bliss and relaxation. Be out in nature if you choose to, anywhere that makes you feel welcomed and comfortable.
Choosing the Right Bubbles
Selecting the perfect bubble solution is key. For me for years, I have created my own with my bubble bath mix of choice. This option also allows me to use my sensory skills and it incorporates my imagination as well. But you are free to use anything you want, just as long as it makes you happy! Personally, I prefer multiple layers of bubbles floating, so I opt out of the bigger wands, and just stay with a study smaller wand.
Relaxation Technique
Now, do I really need to cover this one. Probably not, but I am just in case. There are people out there who have never considered blowing bubbles and may not have as a child so here we go.
Dip your wand into the bubble solution, take a deep breath in, and as you exhale, blow gently and steadily. Watch as the iridescent orbs dance and float into the sky. Focus on your breath, the shimmering spheres, and let your worries drift away with each bubble.
Benefits
The benefits of blowing bubbles are increased focused with every breath, mindfulness, and stress reduction. Simple right? Well, yes it really is that simple. A simple pause to release the negativity of the day is how I look at it.
I encourage everyone to start including this simple childlike activity into your daily stress relief routine. You will have fun and your cares will melt away, if only for a moment. And it’s in that moment that you may find clarity to move forward into whatever your next project or adventure is.
Encouragement to Many
So, my fellow seekers of serenity, the next time life’s waves threaten to overwhelm you, take a moment to pick up that wand, blow a bubble, and breathe. Embrace the beauty in the small things and let your worries float away on shimmering spheres of bliss.
Self-care can be as simple as this. Until next time, keep finding your own path to happiness, one bubble at a time.
