Congratulations! You’ve landed the job interview. Now it’s time to plan out what you are going to wear, down to your lipstick shades that will exude the professional confidence you already own and help you land the job!
Imagine: You’ve got the right outfit; you’ve got the shoes. You’re feeling pretty good. Decisions, decisions. What about your makeup? You are wearing makeup, right? What about your lipstick, (let’s make this easy). Ask yourself, ” Am I wearing the right look to land this job?”
We know, the spotlight often shines brightly on what we say, how we dress, and the overall impression we leave behind. Yet, amidst the preparation checklist, one subtle yet powerful tool often goes overlooked: lipstick.
Yes, the swipe of color on your lips can speak volumes about your confidence, style, and attention to detail.
“Lipstick is really magical. It holds more than a waxy bit of color – it holds the promise of a brilliant smile, a brilliant day, both literally and figuratively.” – Roberta Gately
So, let’s dive into the world of lipstick shades to make you shine for your job interview, not throw shade on it with the wrong lipstick color.
Neutral Shade
Let’s think neutral, a nude shade that closely matches your natural lip color can enhance your overall look without drawing too much attention. Remember, you don’t want anything you wear to be distracting during the interview process.
Speaking from experience, I absolutely love color, all the pantones available, thank you please. However, I play It safe with a neutral lip color for a job interview, and I have a tried-and-true blue suit and grey suit as the combo complements my skin tones.
I understand wanting to “glow up” and shine. In reality though, it’s not the makeup they aren’t hiring.
So, if you are someone who doesn’t wear a lot of makeup, that’s fine. However, I would suggest just a little lipstick for this occasion.
My affordable go to lipstick is, L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Original Creamy, Hydrating Satin Lipstick with Argan Oil and Vitamin E, Caramel Latte. It’s been a favorite of mine for years, and anything close to it. You can pair it with clear lip gloss to finish the look. Blot.
Looking for more color? Let’s move on…
Soft Pink Shade
A subtle pink hue adds a touch of femininity and warmth to your appearance, plus it will definitely compliment all colors.
Opting for a soft, muted pink that enhances your lips without being too bold is just perfect!
You can’t go wrong with Charlotte Tilbury’s Pillow Talk Nude Soft Pink. Long wearing and very hydrating. If you’re sitting in the waiting area for a long period of time, you won’t have to worry about your lipstick. And even after you have aced the interview, your lipstick will still look fabulous.
Muted Coral
Personally, I love a muted coral especially in the summertime. It’s fresh and a bit bold! I fell in love with Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick, a while back and find it too also hydrating and long lasting.
Coral shades can inject a subtle pop of color without being overpowering. Look for a muted coral lipstick that exudes professionalism while still showcasing your personality. Revlon Super Lustrous Lipsticks can give you just that.
If you are leaning towards hints of red, let’s begin with tints and balms too. Gage your fashion and makeup color wheel for precise matching and contrasting.
Berry Tint
Now who doesn’t like a hint of berry? Lipstick shades of berry can add a hint of color while maintaining a polished look. Choose shade that is slightly darker than your natural lip color for a sophisticated yet understated effect.
Trick: If you have any purple tint in your natural lip color, berry lipstick shades are a great choice.
The Maybelline Super Stay Vinyl Ink, color berry is very pigmented and long lasting. It’s an anytime go to for me. Actually, I like the entire collection.
My two favorites are: e.l.f. Hydrating Core Lip Shine, Conditioning & Nourishing Lip Balm and
Jane Iredale LipDrink Lip Balm Hydrating Lip Balm with SPF 15
Classic Red (with Caution)
While red lipstick can exude confidence and power, it’s essential to tread carefully in a professional setting.
If you choose to wear red lipstick to a job interview, opt for a classic, universally flattering shade with a matte or satin finish.
Avoid overly bright or bold reds, and make sure your application is precise and neat.
I suggest going for Andwing Pat McGrath Labs MatteTrance Lipstick Elson, Pat McGrath has perfected the classic color red. A brand favored by Taylor Swift and many other celebrities. This matte red is absolutely gorgeous!
Final Thoughts and Words of Encouragement
So, lipstick shades are important, right? I hope you’ve discovered not only the power of a well-chosen shade but also the confidence it can instill. Remember, the journey to finding the perfect lipstick is not just about aesthetics; it’s about embracing your unique style and presenting your best self to the world.
In every swipe of color, may you find a reflection of your inner strength and determination. Whether you opt for a subtle nude or a daring berry tint, let your choice of lipstick be a testament to your readiness to take on new challenges and seize every opportunity that comes your way.
As you prepare for your next job interview, carry yourself with the grace and confidence that only comes from knowing you’ve put your best lip forward. Trust in your abilities, believe in your potential, and let your inner beauty shine through in every aspect of your presentation.
Remember, you are capable, you are deserving, and you are enough. So go forth with courage, grace, and a killer lipstick shade, knowing that you have what it takes to conquer any interview and achieve your dreams.
