The warmest coat of winter is the military style coat I bought outside London at the Camden Market in 2017. I absolutely love this coat. Not only was the market like nothing I had ever seen before, but the coat also just spoke to my personality and style.
A military style wool coat with military crested buttons, with a wool belt tie. Which is usually tied around the back.
You’re probably thinking well you can buy a military style coat anywhere? Yes, of course you can. However, this coat is special, it was bought at the Camden Markets where Amy Winehouse hung out and I was and still am a huge fan. I felt close to her when I bought it.
When I wear this coat not only am I warm, but my psyche also tells me I am safe, and I look fabulous! But let’s cozy in and take a look at the history of the military style coat came into fashion for women.
And why wearing it makes me feel wonderful!
Style and Winter Warmth
The miliary coat has made its presence known in many forms since the 19th century and during the Victorian Era.
During WWI the trench coat for woman become popular and was added the military flair we still see today. In the 1940’s, the glamor of Hollywood took the trench on and made it the icon it is today in the fashion world.
Many celebrities wore the trench and military trench. For example, Humphrey Bogart made the trench very popular. According to Vogue, “the trench became synonymous with intrepid men and smart women.”.
I suppose I do feel smart when I wear my coat.
Feeling Confident in my Winter Coat
I found this article in preparation for this post, and it was interesting. Amy Rosner, the author of the article, “The Psychology Behind the Clothes: How Fashion Makes Us Feel”, states that Experts have coined, “Enclothed Cognition: the systematic influence that clothes have on the wearer’s psychological processes and abilities.”
I believe it, all of us feel a certain way when we wear certain clothes. When I wear my favorite winter coat, I do feel well put together and confident.
Amy also states in her article that, it’s a psychological experience, when wearing symbolic clothing. We are feeling empowered to a certain extent.
Your Warmest Winter Coat
As winter approaches and you begin to get out your winter clothes for the season. Think about what your favorites are. A warm sweater, those cozy fluffy Uggs, those old sweatpants, or that warm wool coat for those frigid temps.
Wearing what makes you feel wonderful is what it’s all about. But wearing what makes you feel fabulous is the ticket, no matter the weather.
