What do you find yourself doing the most wishing or dreaming? Are you wishing things would change in your life? Are you working towards your dream job or owning your very own whatever it is you want?
A wish is just a wish, it takes no ownership, responsibility or even accountability to do anything for you.
On the flip side, our dreams are what drives us, they are the visions we hold for ourselves, they get us up in the morning wanting more. Our dreams take us places we never thought we could go.
“Your habits are the key to creating the life that you’ve seen in only your wildest dreams.” -Amy Pendergrass
I’m not telling you anything you don’t already know, but what are you doing about it. Let me help you start walking towards what you deserve.
Examine these 3 helpful ways to approach any situation in your life, and how can you apply them to make your dreams come true.
1. Define the divide between wishing and dreaming
At first glance, it’s easy to blur the lines between wishing and dreaming. After all, both involve envisioning a future different from our present circumstances. However, the devil lies in the details.
Wishing tends to be passive, it’s like I mentioned earlier, it’s a fleeting desire for something better without concrete steps or commitment. On the contrary, dreaming involves active participation, fueled by passion and purpose, driving us to pursue our goals relentlessly.
Now let me ask your this, we all know Cinderella got her prince, but what work did she do to get him? So, in reality, it was really only a wish. Now the dream, was the design of Walt Disney.
2. Set an intention and follow through
Wishes often lack the intentionality that propels dreams into reality. When we wish for success or fulfillment in our careers, it’s like tossing a coin into a wishing well and hoping for the best. Dreams, on the other hand, are grounded in intention. They stem from a deep-seated desire to achieve something meaningful, accompanied by a strategic roadmap to turn aspirations into achievements.
Although, simple, it can be very hard to reframe our ordinary thoughts and transform them into exciting and positive action taking thoughts.
Start small, but at least try. The role of intention lies in your actions and beliefs that you WILL do something, follow through, and meet that intentional reward you so deserve.
3. ACTION: The catalyst for transformation
Perhaps the most significant difference between wishing and dreaming lies in taking action. Wishes often remain idle thoughts, dissipating into the ether without manifesting into tangible progress. In contrast, dreams inspire action. They ignite a fire within us, propelling us to take bold steps, overcome obstacles, and persist in the pursuit of our professional ambitions.
Thoughts and actions must come together as one to create your successful reality, however, this looks to you. Stay focused on your goals and how you see them, not how others see them.
I learned a long time ago that most of our friends and family are not interested in our dreams, it’s not an insult to our dreams, it’s not their dream. You understand. But it doesn’t mean they wouldn’t support you, and I’m sure they do!
Just keep going and moving forward. Wishing is for those who don’t want to commit, dreams are for those who want a different reality.
Final thoughts and words of encouragement
Throughout life, the interplay between wishing and dreaming serves as a testament to the human spirit’s resilience and capacity for growth. While wishes may offer fleeting reprieves in disappointing times, it is our dreams that ignite the flames of transformation, guiding us to push forward with meaning and purpose.
To those grappling with the weight of unfulfilled wishes and unrealized dreams, remember this, your journey is not defined by the setbacks you encounter, but by the resilience with which you rise from the ashes of disappointment. Embrace the uncertainty, make the mistakes, and sow the seeds of opportunity. Confidence does not come first, action does.
Believe in the power of your dreams, for they are the compass that guides you through life’s tumultuous seas. With each step you take towards your aspirations, you redefine the narrative of your life’s story, weaving a tapestry of success and happiness, through all of life’s disappointments, you can sit back and say, “I did it, I made my dreams come true.”
