Hop onto my magic carpet and let’s fly!!
The Power in Childhood Passions
When we were children, I don’t know about you, but I felt fearless! My childhood passions drove my creativity, enthusiasm, and a sense of fulfillment. Those passions were deeply rooted in the core of who I was and who I am.
Reconnecting with those dreams and leveraging them in our professional lives, we have potential to unlock a whole new level of success.
First Step
Identify your passions! Write them done! Feel those passions of your childhood and the power they have to make you smile!
Take a moment and just reflect on what truly excited you as a kid… Ok, for me it was roller skating! I felt like I was flying! The joy was overwhelming sometimes.
For you, maybe you enjoyed building Legos, writing imaginative stories, or performing in front of an audience. I can see, an architect, a novelist, and an incredible performing artist.
Moments of pure joy and pure self-expression are very valuable clues to the passions that still lives inside you today.
Second Step
Translate them into the skills you have now as an adult. For instance, if you enjoyed building Legos, then you probably have a talent for problem solving, architecture, real estate… see where I’m going. You’re using your strategic thinking skills too. Don’t assume everyone has that skill, they don’t.
If you enjoyed storytelling, you could channel this talent into content creation, becoming a teacher, this one opens up so many possibilities!
These childhood passions hold the key to unlocking YOUR unique strengths and abilities that can set you apart in your professional journey.
Of course, this is not without obstacles, you’re an adult now. You have responsibilities and furthermore, we all can’t be Peter Pan sadly.
We may fear that pursuing our childhood dreams will be seen as frivolous, make us seem aloof, or even lack the skills to professionally succeed! STOP! This is not TRUE!
Reconnecting with our childhood passions is not reliving the past, but rather tapping into the abundance of resources of joy, happiness, passion, and innovation they offer us!
Overcoming the Obstacles
Two great ways to overcome obstacles: SEEK and FIND!
- Surround yourself with a supportive network of people who believe in your potential and encourage you to follow your dreams! Check in with these people OFTEN!
- Seek out mentors, like-mind people out in your community who share the same interests and can guide and inspire you along the way.
In fact, creating a supportive environment for yourself and your passions can build your confidence and motivation needed to fully embrace your childhood passions and start living the life you were meant to live!
Take a chance on YOU! Don’t you think you are worth it? (this answer should be YES!)
Translating Childhood Passions to Professional Skills
Let’s review. You’ve identified your childhood passions, you have a plan, you have your support team, now it’s time to use what you have.
Therefore, believing in your talents and understanding that they are a part of your core, and most specifically understanding the value they represent, you can begin to explore and SOAR in your adult professional life!
In fact, you will open up most if not all the opportunities and possibilities, you should have from like age… nine.
Remember how you may have loved to color? I still do! Design your own coloring book! In fact, coloring requires focus, and attention to detail, because you liked to color as a child, you might can pivot your career into using your detail talents in criminal justice or being a private investigator. Not to say, more education is required, but you can pivot.
We develop skills and talents throughout our lives, but it’s our childhood dreams which never leave us.
So, embrace your growth and evolution you forgot about and put your talents to work!
Putting Passions into Action
Don’t be afraid to integrate to create! Yes, it may require a little experimentation and adaptation, but I have no doubt you will find creative ways to showcase your unique talents and merge them with your current role.
Not to mention, this is YOUR potential to explore! Have fun rediscovering you.
In Short
